Trump’s Election Carries the Seeds of Rejection
American voters sent clear messsges on November 5th.
They don’t care much for prosecution of politicians. Truth is not necessary. Facts bothersome if they cross ideological lines. A black woman is going to turn off enough voters to matter.
But the bottom line of the election needs reflection, especially in the face of MAGA claiming a crushing mandate. As the final totals come in was it a mandate for what Trump proposes? Are Americans looking for a dismantling of the American government? Are we behind concentration camps in Texas? Are we asking for the Marines to invade our cities?
“… by traditional numeric measures, Mr. Trump’s victory was neither unprecedented nor a landslide. In fact, he prevailed with one of the smallest margins of victory in the popular vote since the 19th century and generated little of the coattails of a true landslide.” NY TIMES.
It’s only taken days for the wheels to start wobbling of the refurbished ‘Trump train.’
It makes sense for the new cabinet of a man convicted of sexual crimes would fill his cabinet with people accused of sexual crimes. But that didn’t mean he will be successful at the plan. No less an moussed rightist than Senator Paul has pushed back hard on Trump’s plan to deploy Marines to American cities. Trump himself couldn’t help but mock his choice on RFK.
The clown show provides chuckles as always, though the joke’s on us. Clowns are not that funny anyway.
The election is less than two years away. Lame duck presidents lose power fast. Most of Trump’s promises are fake. Trump is the sort of personality that always believes he can get away with it. But he’s up against it this time.
The American people are living in a strong economy with secure borders. Every single one of Trump’s more extreme policies are based on phantoms and unnecessary.
Inflation is low. Leave it alone. Job numbers are good. Leave them alone. Trade is popular. Leave it alone. We like clean air. We like junk food. We like our neighbors and we like America. Leave it alone.
With some votes still being counted, the tally used by The New York Times showed Mr. Trump winning the popular vote with 49.997 percent as of Thursday night, and he appears likely to fall below that once the final results are in, meaning he would not capture a majority. Another count used by CNN and other outlets shows him winning 49.9 percent. By either reckoning, his margin over Vice President Kamala Harris was about 1.6 percentage points, the third smallest since 1888, and could ultimately end up around 1.5 points. NY TIMES
No mandate. No popular uprising. American voters are the ultimate check and balance against political overreach. Maybe this republic has some life in her after all.
